Coalbed methane is a type of gas trapped underground in coal deposits. Getting it out of the ground is difficult, and in other places has caused serious environmental impacts.

Already 20+ test wells have been drilled north of Elkford, and that area is poised to become the first commercial CBM development in all of B.C.

BP Canada was granted a huge tenure area near Fernie covering 300SQKM. This tenure has now been sold to Apache Energy who are currently FRACKING their first exploratory well.
